Spotify profiles offer limited social interaction between friends and little incentive to explore new genres and artists.
Spotify excels in presenting artists' music with engaging content, yet it could enhance music discovery and artist connection. To further enhance the long-term user experience and retention, Spotify could develop new ways to encourage the exploration of new genres and artists throughout the year. This would align closely with Spotify's mission of fostering deep musical experience for users and empowering artists.
So, what is the solution?
Develop an engaging, gamified challenge system in the app to encourage users to explore various music genres, artists, and eras. Users can earn badges and stars for completing challenges of varying difficulty, redeemable for rewards like ticket discounts or exclusive artist tracks. Badges are displayed on profiles to showcase a user’s musical journey.
BACKGROUND
According to my Spotify Wrapped, I listened to over 84,000 minutes of music in 2023.
Spotify has truly broadened my musical horizons by introducing me to various genres of music and artists, ranging from rap, hip-hop, and reggaeton to Hindi and lo-fi beats. I chose to dig deeper into the ways Spotify can improve its discovery experience since it is the app I use the most on a daily basis.
